The inability of people to see the very basic fact that things don't come out of nowhere and that every thing has an origin is baffling. When you try to tell them how their choices do have effects they simply do not grasp how, in the myriad images of all things shown to us today, they could possibly play a part; even minute.

I realised this is one of the reasons why God emphasises your accountability ALONE so much. You will only be held accountable for what you did. It doesn't matter if your action 'wouldn't have made a difference' or everyone else was doing it, you, you alone will be held accountable for what you did notwithstanding any excuse. Indeed, no excuses can be made on that day. I think a lot of it comes from heedlessness, and people's inability to self reflect.

I don't mean to be cynical at all, but a thought that crossed my mind once in Madina, seeing baab malikal fahad, and colonel sanders right outside(both names that I have a problem with), seeing people disregard the boycott for Palestine and consume food mindlessly, seeing them simply pray and go about eating, not teaching or learning anything, was that were the prophet here the first thing he would've done is wept at what had been done to his beloved city ('Jesus wept' reminded me of this), and then he would've destroyed the two 'holy' mosques. I'm not advocating for anything lol but this thought did cross my mind. I was very upset on my Umrah.

Anyway, these are things that crossed my mind reading your post. Sorry if I sound negative, its just that the whole topic of capitalism and living blindly gets to me. This was a very nice read.

Thank you for reading and engaging so thoughtfully! Absolutely, as you said such heedlessness seems to be far too common these days - tragically including the Muslim world - I am astounded by the selfishness that has become the norm there. It is the deepest sorrow of my life, this knowledge that as a collective we have strayed so far from the blessed prophets path, that as you say, he would surely be weeping if he saw us today.

Your point on accountability reminds me of the beautiful story of the one tiny bird who kept filling its beak with water and then spitting it out in an effort to extinguish the fire surrounding prophet Ibrahim. When the other animals asked him why he was doing so and what difference it would make he responded that on the day Allah questions him at least he can say he made an effort, even if it was tiny. SubhanAllah.

Thanks again I appreciate it!
